What happens to unaccompanied refugee minors when they arrive in Canada seeking asylum? This documentary attempts to demystify and put a face to the plight of refugee minors. We follow the lives of Sallieu, a 16-year-old from war torn Sierra Leone, and Joyce, a 17-year-old from the Democratic Republic of Congo, as they try to make a new life for themselves in Toronto. Not only do they have to deal with growing up but they must also try to come to terms with a very adult bureaucratic system that seems to have the deck stacked against them. But with some kindness from strangers and a hope to change their troubled past, these teenagers will try and forge a new life in a strange land.
